Barrington Hills is set in the country suburban area of 60010 and is well known as an area with large acreage per property and hence ideally suited for horse owners. Located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago, its a long way from the urban city and has a totally different lifestyle than city living. The land area is about 30 square miles and with just over 4200 residents, most property is located in Cook County and Lake County, with small areas of the village being located in Kane County or McHenry County. A high proportion of the properties here can be found on 5 to 10 acre lots. There are a few with much larger and some smaller. In general Barrington Hills is known as the horse territory locally and is zoned for horse farms and horse raising. Many horse properties here are not part of planned subdivisions, they are just part of the country suburban landscape. In recent years a few small planned unit neighborhoods were created and we'll be writing about those soon. Barrington Hills is home to the owner of Arlington Park race track in Arlington Heights, also to the Barrington Hills Polo Club, a private club with programs for adults and children. Once a year there is a public event.
